Wanderer dies after falling from Hohen Ifen cliff

A 56-year-old German man died after falling from Hohen Ifen, a mountain in the Kleinwalsertal, during a hike on Thursday, ORF reported. Police said he fell about 200 metres over a steep cliff. They do not suspect that anyone else was involved.

The man was climbing towards the summit when he fell for reasons that remain unclear. Other hikers nearby witnessed the accident, called emergency services and alerted rescuers.

The emergency helicopter Gallus 1 was sent to the scene. Despite the rapid response, rescuers could only confirm the man’s death.

Investigators are continuing to establish the exact circumstances of the accident.
