The state of Salzburg has indicated it could provide €26 million in subsidies for the renovation or redevelopment of the Südtiroler Siedlung housing complex in Salzburg-Liefering, ORF reports. Project operator BUWOG had expected a smaller contribution.

Plans currently include 170 subsidised rental apartments, averaging 60 square metres each. They would qualify for a subsidy rate of €2,520 per square metre, with part of the funding paid as a direct grant, housing councillor Martin Zauner said.

The amount has not yet been formally approved. The eligible costs must first be examined in detail, Zauner said.

BUWOG also plans to build 142 owner-occupied apartments on the site. Zauner is due to meet BUWOG management next week.
