Tyrolean Social Services (TSD), a refugee services company, plans to halve its 45 accommodation facilities and could cut up to 70 jobs in 2027, ORF reported Tuesday. The company announced the measures at a press conference in Innsbruck, citing a sharp fall in asylum seeker numbers.
TSD aims to adjust its staffing and property portfolio to current demand, said chief executive Florian Stolz. The company expects fewer than 2,000 people to be receiving basic care in Tyrol by the end of 2026, compared with more than 5,000 three years ago. Stolz said the number could fall further in 2027.
The planned cuts are intended to generate savings worth millions of euros and return TSD to financial stability by 2028. The company has not yet set a precise savings target. Stolz said the figure for 2027 would likely be available in early December, after a meeting of the supervisory board.
Along with staffing and property costs, TSD will also need to reduce other expenses, including material costs. Measures taken in 2025 to cut those costs had not been enough, Stolz said.
