A 54-year-old motorcyclist was injured after leaving the road and crashing into a rock in Mürzsteg, in Styria’s Bruck-Mürzzuschlag district, ORF reported. She was flown to hospital after receiving initial treatment at the scene.
The woman, from the Perg district of Upper Austria, was riding from the Niederalpl pass towards Mürzzuschlag on the L113 at about 11:15 a.m. when she left the road to the right on a left-hand bend for reasons that remain unclear.
Her motorcycle travelled over a slight embankment and hit a rock lying in the adjacent meadow. The collision threw her from the motorcycle, leaving her in the meadow. A local resident who heard a loud bang called emergency services.
Two doctors who happened to be nearby and a first responder provided initial medical care. The C17 rescue helicopter then flew the woman, who had injuries of undetermined severity, to Leoben State Hospital.
Volunteer firefighters recovered the badly damaged motorcycle and transported it away from the crash site.
