Klagenfurt festival brings 17 days of Alpine Adriatic cuisine

Klagenfurt will host its ninth “Days of Alpine Adriatic Cuisine” festival from September 4 to 20, showcasing food from the Alpine Adriatic region, ORF reported. More than 70 producers and guest chefs will take part, with organisers also aiming to strengthen tourism in the city.

Visitors will be able to sample dishes and products from across the region during the 17-day festival. Helmut Micheler, managing director of the Klagenfurt Tourism Association, said the event would highlight the quality of restaurants and producers in Klagenfurt and the surrounding area.

This year’s programme will place a particular focus on Slow Food. The aim is to promote the philosophy of “good food, clean food at fair prices” among the wider public, Micheler said.

Lojze Wieser, a food philosopher and festival participant, said the focus was also intended to raise awareness of food and how it is produced. He said previous generations had possessed knowledge about food that had since been lost.

Micheler said events were important for Klagenfurt even though the tourism season was going well. Activities during the periods before and after the main season were intended to attract additional visitors, including through major sporting, cultural and community events.

The culinary festival is also expected to be expanded in the future.
