Two crashes in Styria leave woman critically injured, four hurt

A 68-year-old woman suffered life-threatening injuries in a crash in Seiersberg-Pirka in the Graz-Umgebung district on Saturday afternoon, ORF reported. A second collision in Dürnstein in the Murau district left four people injured.

The first crash happened at about 3:48 p.m. on the B70. Police said initial findings indicated that the 68-year-old entered an intersection against a red light, where her vehicle collided with a car driven by a 50-year-old woman. The impact left the older woman critically injured. The other driver was also hurt and tested negative for alcohol. No alcohol test was carried out on the 68-year-old because of the severity of her injuries. The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation.

About half an hour later, at 4:25 p.m., two cars collided on the B317 in Dürnstein. A 59-year-old Croatian man was driving from Friesach towards Neumarkt with his wife and daughter when he crossed into the oncoming lane on a bend. The reason is not yet known. His car collided with a vehicle driven by a 64-year-old German man, whose car was thrown into a ditch by the force of the impact. The Croatian family’s vehicle also left the road and came to a stop in a meadow. All four people were taken to hospital and treated as outpatients. Both drivers tested negative for alcohol.
