Graz station ranks third in Austrian passenger survey

Graz Central Station ranked third among Austria’s large railway stations in the annual station survey by the Austrian Transport Club, ORF reported. Several other stations in Styria also received strong ratings, with Mariazell taking first place in the category for smaller stations.

About 13,300 passengers rated railway stations on trains and online according to 16 criteria. Graz Central Station scored particularly well for accessibility on foot, by bicycle and by public transport, as well as for accessibility for people with disabilities, ticket-machine availability and passenger information.

Passengers rated St. Pölten Central Station highest, followed by Vienna West Station.

Schladming ranked sixth among larger stations outside Austria’s provincial capitals. Other Styrian stations in the top 20 were Feldbach in ninth place, Mürzzuschlag in 10th, Leibnitz in 11th, Zeltweg in 12th, Gleisdorf in 14th, Weiz in 18th and Deutschlandsberg Stadt in 20th.

Mariazell ranked first among smaller stations. Five other Styrian stations also made that category’s top 20: Peggau-Deutschfeistritz in 13th place, Unzmarkt in 14th, Übelbach Vormarkt in 15th, Werndorf in 17th and Wildon in 18th.

The survey also identified areas for improvement. Thirty-eight percent of Styrian passengers want better public transport access to stations outside peak travel times, while 40 percent would like more flexible mobility services such as on-demand buses and shared taxis.

Overall, 84 percent of Styrian passengers were satisfied with the station where they boarded. However, 27 percent were dissatisfied with cleanliness, 28 percent with waiting areas and weather protection, and 46 percent with toilets and sanitary facilities.
