Father suspected of fatally stabbing eight-year-old daughter in Styria
ORF reports that a 37-year-old man is suspected of fatally injuring his eight-year-old daughter in Kumberg, in the Graz-Umgebung district of Styria. Police were called to a residential building on Monday evening and arrested the man after he allegedly attempted suicide.
Emergency services received a call at about 10.45 p.m. reporting that the man was attacking his daughter. Several police patrols were sent to the building, where officers found him in the bathroom with cuts that apparently resulted from a suicide attempt.
The girl had suffered serious cut and stab wounds. An emergency doctor treated her before she was taken to Graz State Hospital, where she died shortly afterwards despite medical assistance.
The suspected attacker was also taken to hospital for treatment before being arrested and transferred to a police detention centre.
The Styrian State Criminal Police Office is investigating the circumstances and possible motive.
