A 26-year-old man from Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz drowned in the Königssee lake, BR reported. He was apparently unable to swim.
The man had been out with a friend, who alerted emergency services after losing sight of him, police said. Police, firefighters and the water rescue service searched for him.
A firefighter eventually pulled the man, who was drifting underwater, to the shore in the Berchtesgadener Land district. Resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful. Police said they presumed an accident and found no indication that anyone else was responsible. They warned people not to move too far from the shore at the Königssee.
Meanwhile, two girls rescued from the Heimstettener See lake near Munich on Saturday afternoon remained in life-threatening condition a day later. According to police, the eight- and 15-year-olds had been playing with a ball in shallow water before moving into deeper water.
It was still unclear why this happened and whether the girls could swim. Bathers, water rescuers and firefighters pulled them from the lake and immediately began resuscitation. Police said the girls were not siblings, but their exact relationship was not yet known.
