Salzburg farmers urged to secure water supplies

The state of Salzburg and the Salzburg Chamber of Agriculture are urging farmers to act quickly to improve water supplies on their farms, ORF reported. They will provide technical, administrative and financial support.

Options include drilling wells, developing springs, laying pipelines and installing water storage facilities. Experts can assess existing systems and help find new solutions, said chamber president Rupert Quehenberger.

Between 50 and 100 farms in the state could benefit, particularly mountain pasture operations. Possible measures include improving the collection of existing water resources, developing new springs or connecting farms so they can share supplies.

Such water projects cost an average of 15,000 to 30,000 euros. Existing federal and state funding generally covers about one quarter of the costs, according to the chamber.
