BR cycling tour draws 3,000 people in Rosenheim

About 3,000 people celebrated the arrival of the BR Radltour in Rosenheim on Wednesday after participants completed the tour’s longest stage of the year, BR reported. The 115-kilometre route from Oberammergau was made particularly demanding by the intense heat.

The riders reached the finish at Ludwigsplatz at around 5 p.m. after one of the longest stages in the tour’s history.

The first water stop came after 44 kilometres in Bichl, followed by a lunch break at Gut Kaltenbrunn. From there, riders still had 42 kilometres to go. The view of Lake Tegernsee made it difficult for some participants to leave, while others cooled off in the water.

Alfons Besel, the mayor of Gmund, said the town was pleased to host the lunch stop and noted that four long-distance cycling routes pass through the municipality.

After another water stop in Au near Bad Aibling, the group continued to Rosenheim, the largest destination city of the 35th BR Radltour.

The fourth day of the tour will end with a free open-air concert by Michael Patrick Kelly, presented by Bayern 1. On Thursday, the cyclists will travel from Rosenheim to Dorfen on the tour’s shortest stage this year, covering 84 kilometres.
