Two motorcyclists injured in overtaking crashes in Upper Styria

Two motorcyclists were injured in separate crashes in Upper Styria on Saturday afternoon, ORF reported. Both accidents happened during overtaking manoeuvres.

The first crash occurred at about 3:20 p.m. on the B114 near Hohentauern. A 60-year-old German motorcyclist was travelling towards Sankt Johann am Tauern when a car suddenly came towards him in his lane at road kilometre 15.9.

The motorcyclist swerved to the right, left the road and fell in a meadow. He was taken to the LKH Rottenmann hospital with injuries of undetermined severity. The car driver, who was apparently overtaking another vehicle, continued without stopping.

Almost two hours later, a 57-year-old man from Upper Austria crashed on the B72 in the municipality of St. Kathrein am Hauenstein. He was riding with a group of five motorcyclists and attempted to overtake several cyclists on an uphill stretch. He apparently fell because of a riding error.

The man was flown by the C16 rescue helicopter to the LKH Oberwart hospital.
