Girl seriously injured after falling from horse at market

A nine-year-old girl suffered serious injuries after falling from a horse at a horse market in Schöder in the Murau district on Saturday, ORF reported, citing police.

The accident happened at about 1:30 p.m. The girl, who is from the Murau district, wanted to mount her neighbour’s horse, which she had known for some time.

The horse was tethered without a saddle during an exhibition and was being supervised by its owner. The girl mounted it unaided but could not hold on and fell to the ground on the other side, seriously injuring her forearm.

After receiving initial medical treatment, she was flown by the C14 rescue helicopter crew to Klagenfurt Hospital.
