Styria’s Governor Mario Kunasek has called on the Graz city government to present a complete plan for modernising the football stadium in Liebenau, ORF reported. Kunasek, who belongs to the FPÖ, criticised the plans so far as “alibi passes” in an interview with the Austria Press Agency.
He said there had been no clear commitment from the city of Graz, including over the past 18 months, and described the situation as unsatisfactory.
Kunasek said he expected the city government to develop a serious, fully worked-out concept together with the two clubs, SK Sturm and GAK. The city, he added, owns the stadium, not the state of Styria.
Once the city and the clubs have agreed on a complete proposal, he said, they could approach the state to request support.
