Tirol records sharp rise in July tourism

Tourist arrivals and overnight stays in Tyrol increased during the first three months of the summer season, ORF reported. The strongest growth came in July, when more visitors stayed in the Austrian state than a year earlier.

From May through July, Tyrol recorded almost 11.2 million overnight stays, 3.3 percent more than in the same period last year. Arrivals rose by 5.4 percent to almost 3.39 million.

Across Austria, overnight stays reached a record 41.87 million during the period, according to Statistics Austria. More than a quarter of those stays were recorded in Tyrol.

In July, arrivals in Tyrol increased by 11.9 percent. The number of visitors from Austria rose by 14.6 percent to 188,400. However, that was far below the 1.46 million arrivals from abroad. Tyrol ranked seventh among Austria’s federal states for domestic visitors, while Styria was the most popular destination for Austrian holidaymakers.

Overnight stays in Tyrol rose by 6 percent in July compared with the previous year. In June, they had fallen sharply, which tourism representatives attributed to the timing of public holidays, most of which fell in May this year.
