Carinthian man receives suspended sentence for Holocaust denial

A 60-year-old man from Carinthia was sentenced to 14 months in prison, suspended, for the offence of Nazi re-engagement, ORF reported. He had denied the Holocaust on Facebook and shared the posts with his 5,000 followers.

A jury at Klagenfurt Regional Court unanimously found the man guilty. Over a five-year period, he shared, liked and commented on several Facebook posts that denied or glorified the Holocaust.

“The evidence is mounting that the Holocaust is a gigantic lie,” the man wrote on his account, among other statements.

The defendant fully admitted the charges during the trial. He attributed his views at the time to a personal crisis and said he regretted his actions.

Judge Dietmar Wassertheurer imposed the 14-month suspended sentence. The verdict is final.
