Kufstein cycling marathon sets participant record
According to ORF, a record 1,800 cyclists took part in the 10th Kufsteinerland Cycling Marathon in Kufstein, which brought riders from 33 nations to the Tyrolean town over three days.
Participants completed one of three distances. The 120-kilometre marathon route, which included 1,800 metres of elevation gain, was won on Sunday by Germany’s Brigitte Filensky and Austria’s Christian Oberngruber.
Local rider Max Kuen, who had previously won the event three times in Kufstein, finished third. Jasper Britz came second in the men’s race, while Lisa Hartung and Tjade Scharer finished second and third in the women’s event.
Organiser Frank Rietzler said he was pleased with the record turnout and described the event as almost accident-free, apart from one crash.
