Access dispute stalls Assling’s planned eco-business park

Assling, business park, Tirol

Four years after Assling, a municipality in Lienz district, unveiled plans for an ecological business park, its eight-hectare site remains unused, ORF reported.

The project was intended to attract sustainably producing eco-companies. Plans called for compact construction, minimal soil sealing, extensive green space and the use of renewable energy. Mayor Reinhard Mair said at the time that the municipality wanted to introduce innovative energy-saving measures.

Today, the planned business park is still absent. The site is largely covered in gravel and is being used to store damaged timber.

Mair said there were interested companies, but negotiations over access to the site had not been completed. One possible solution would involve a railway crossing. He declined to provide further details while the talks continue.
