Graz police investigate suspected illegal prostitution

Police in Graz are investigating suspected illegal prostitution after a 22-year-old Romanian woman was stopped without identification during a traffic check, ORF reported.

At about 9 a.m. on Thursday, officers from Traffic Inspection 2 noticed a car with French transfer plates on Kärntner Straße. The woman at the wheel could not produce identification or the vehicle documents. She said she lived nearby and had left the documents in her flat.

Police accompanied her to the flat, where she identified herself as a 22-year-old Romanian woman. She was not registered as living there, and officers found indications of illegal prostitution.

The criminal investigations department of the Graz City Police Command took over the case. After initially denying the allegations, the woman admitted that she had offered several sexual services for payment in recent days. Investigators also linked her to a profile on a relevant online platform.

The woman will be reported for various administrative offences. She did not have a valid health certificate, prompting the Federal Office for Immigration and Asylum to order her provisional arrest. A further decision by the office is pending.
