Salzburg sets July overnight-stay record with 3.8 million nights

Salzburg tourism recorded more than 3.8 million overnight stays in July, a new monthly record, ORF reported. The figure was 4.2 percent higher than in the same month last year.

Visitors from Germany remained the largest group, accounting for 40 percent of overnight stays. Austrians made up 18 percent, followed by tourists from the Netherlands and the Czech Republic. Overnight stays from both countries increased significantly.

The main setback was a one-third decline in visitors from Arab countries, said Leo Bauernberger, managing director of Salzburg Land Tourismus. He said other markets had compensated for the loss and that the geopolitical situation would need to be monitored.

The entire summer season is also currently heading for a record. From May to July, overnight stays increased by 3 percent. The summer season runs through October.
