Firefighters stopped an ammonia leak at an industrial plant in Arnoldstein on Tuesday, ORF reported. No one was injured, and a state chemist found no further danger, according to police.

The leak occurred at about 1.40pm during maintenance work on a heat pump system. The cause was initially unknown. About 50 kilograms of ammonia escaped along with liquefied gas and lubricant.

Five fire brigades deployed 50 firefighters: Feistritz an der Gail, Nötsch, Arnoldstein, Kerschdorf-Wertschach and St. Georgen im Gailtal.

Several teams equipped with breathing apparatus sealed the leak and prevented further ammonia from escaping.
