Police arrest three over stolen €15,000 bike

Police in Kittsee, in Neusiedl am See district, arrested three men last week who are suspected of stealing a high-priced bicycle in Vienna, ORF reported. The bicycle, valued at around €15,000, was returned to its owner.

The owner used a GPS tracker to locate the bicycle. Shortly after it was stolen in Vienna’s first district, the signal led to Burgenland, towards Parndorf and the A6 motorway. Police patrols in Neusiedl am See district were alerted and stopped a vehicle carrying three people near the shopping centre in Kittsee.

Officers found the bicycle hidden under a blanket inside the vehicle. The suspects were two Slovak nationals, aged 47 and 49, and a 24-year-old Ukrainian national. All three were provisionally arrested.

Further investigations found that the vehicle they were using had also been reported stolen. Police also found a battery-powered angle grinder, which they suspect may have been used in the crime.

On the order of the Vienna public prosecutor’s office, the 49-year-old Slovak national was taken to Vienna-Josefstadt prison. The other two suspects were reported while remaining at liberty. Investigations into the stolen vehicle are continuing.
