BR cycling tour completes hilly 95-kilometre stage

The third stage of the BR cycling tour ended in Oberammergau on Tuesday after 1,000 amateur cyclists covered 95 kilometres from Königsbrunn in intense heat, BR reported.

Organisers added several climbs to the route, making the stage particularly demanding. Around 1,000 people welcomed the riders in Oberammergau, the tour’s smallest destination of 2026.

Refreshments at Schongau market

After a water stop in Erpfting, the riders continued to Schongau for lunch. They used the facilities of the town’s historical market, which runs until August 9, including seating and food and drink stands.

Schongau Mayor Thomas Schleich thanked those involved, saying that while the town was used to being busy, receiving 1,000 people at once was something special.

Bishop joins the tour

Among those taking a break in Schongau was Christian Kopp, the Protestant regional bishop, who had completed his second full stage. He described the tour as neither a holiday nor work, but as a combination of passion and contact with many people, including church members.

Kopp said he regretted having to leave the tour in Oberammergau this year.

Starship to perform

Starship will perform at the festival grounds in Oberammergau on Tuesday evening, with the concert presented by Bayern 1. Admission is free.

The riders will face the tour’s longest stage on Wednesday, travelling 115 kilometres from Oberammergau to Rosenheim.
