More than 15,000 people have registered for the 33rd Graz Marathon, where Kenyan runners could challenge the course record, ORF reports.

The record of 2:08:28, set in 2023, could be under threat from a strong Kenyan field that includes John Maina Ndirangu, race organiser Michael Kummerer said. He said the expected conditions were favourable for the runners.

Registrations have more than doubled since 2022. A large crowd gathered at the Graz Citypark for race-number collection from Friday morning.

Among the elite entrants is Lower Austrian runner Julia Mayer, who will compete in the half marathon.

The weekend programme starts with a shakeout run at 11 a.m. Saturday, followed by a mascot race at 1 p.m. The quarter marathon begins at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, and the full marathon starts at 10 a.m. in front of the opera house.
