Styria’s tourism department will provide 200,000 euros in travel funding for school winter sports weeks during the 2026/27 school year, ORF reported. The scheme was well received last year.
The funding is intended to give more children and young people access to winter sports and strengthen the state’s winter sports regions. Schools can apply for the cost of bus or train travel between the school and a winter sports destination in Styria. Local transport during the week is not covered.
At least four nights must be spent at a winter sports destination in Styria. Schools must also obtain three offers from transport companies and select the lowest bidder. Funding will be awarded on a first come, first served basis.
Styria Governor Mario Kunasek said winter sports weeks could help children exercise, share experiences and get to know the state’s winter sports regions. Education Minister Stefan Hermann said the weeks were an important part of sports provision for children and young people.
