Andritz wins Romanian hydropower modernisation contract

Styrian plant builder Andritz has won, as part of a consortium, a contract to modernise a hydropower plant in Romania, ORF reported. The company said the contract is worth a high double-digit million-euro amount.

The plant in Râul Mare Retezat has an installed capacity of 335 megawatts but has so far been able to operate at only about 200 megawatts. The modernisation is expected to raise its fully usable capacity to 376 megawatts.

Andritz will design, manufacture and supply the electromechanical equipment, including two turbines, generators, automation systems and auxiliary equipment.

The company said the project would contribute to Romania’s renewable energy supply and strengthen the national electricity grid. The contract is included in Andritz’s order intake for the third quarter of 2026.

Completion is planned by 2031.
