State agrees 50-year lease for Maltschacher See holiday village

ORF reported that the Carinthia state government has agreed a 50-year lease with entrepreneur Martin Ramusch for the former ÖGB holiday village at Lake Maltschacher See near Feldkirchen, securing its future as a tourist destination. Public access to the lake will remain open.

The holiday village faced closure without new investment because it would no longer have had a valid operating permit from next year.

Under the agreement, Ramusch will invest in the complex. The first phase is expected to cost 11 million euros, with the state contributing 8 million euros through the Kärntner Beteiligungsverwaltung, its investment administration. Fire safety is among the areas set to receive funding.

Keeping public access to the lake is a condition of the state funding, according to the state government.

The holiday village has 822 beds, making it the largest in Austria. Ramusch said no second homes would be built on the property.
