Bavaria expects changing weather and mild Oktoberfest opening

Bavaria is in for a changeable week with rain, sunshine and thunderstorms, while temperatures could reach 20 degrees Celsius for the opening of the 191st Oktoberfest. BR24 reported that the German Weather Service expects around six hours of sunshine on the festival’s first day.

Rain gives way to sunshine

Many parts of Bavaria will remain cloudy on Monday. Rain is still possible, especially between the Alps and the Bavarian Forest, while northern Bavaria near the Danube could see a few final showers. The skies should gradually clear during the afternoon, with sunshine becoming more frequent towards evening. Temperatures will reach 18 to 24 degrees.

After some local fog on Tuesday morning, the German Weather Service expects plenty of sunshine across Bavaria. A few cumulus clouds could form around midday. Highs will range from 23 to 27 degrees, with the warmest temperatures likely in the Untermain region.

Rain and thunderstorms return

The settled weather will not last long. Rain will move into Bavaria from the northwest on Wednesday and could be accompanied by thunder and lightning in some places. The sun may appear briefly before and after the rain. Highs will reach 18 to 23 degrees.

Thursday will bring a more pleasant mix of sunshine and cumulus clouds. A few drops or showers are possible towards the Bavarian Forest and the eastern edge of the Alps. Temperatures will generally reach 17 to 21 degrees.

Clouds will move in from the northwest overnight into Friday. It will remain mostly dry at first, before light rain develops in places, particularly in Franconia. Temperatures will fall to between 5 and 11 degrees.

Oktoberfest forecast

For the start of the 191st Oktoberfest, the German Weather Service expects considerably milder temperatures than at last year’s opening ceremony. After the heat record in 2025, temperatures are forecast to reach only 20 degrees this year. “Not too warm, not too cold,” said German Weather Service meteorologist Dirk Mewes.

Temperatures are expected to fall to about 11 degrees in Munich’s city centre on the night into Sunday. A light wind of around 35 kilometres per hour could blow across the Theresienwiese festival grounds, although gusts are expected to remain limited, Mewes said.

Sunday is forecast to bring more clouds, and a few drops of rain cannot be ruled out on the second day of the festival. Temperatures should be around 22 degrees.
