Police arrest two alleged gang members over €150,000 thefts

Police in Austria have arrested two alleged members of a Hungarian gang suspected of carrying out at least 36 burglaries and stealing goods worth around €150,000, ORF reported.

The two men, aged 28 and 29, were caught in the act during another theft in Styria last Thursday. On the orders of the Eisenstadt public prosecutor’s office, they were taken to Eisenstadt prison, where they are being held in pre-trial detention.

Police have been investigating the group since May. The suspected burglaries took place in Burgenland, Lower Austria, Upper Austria and Styria. The group allegedly broke into containers and garages and stole agricultural machinery, a boat and trailer, and 30 car keys from a car dealership in Marchtrenk in the Wels-Land district.

The group is believed to have entered Austria through Burgenland each time. Investigations into the two men and the wider group are continuing.
