The operator of Gleisgarten, a food market in a former Badner Bahn depot in Vienna’s Meidling district, has filed for bankruptcy, ORF reported. The company’s debts are estimated at around 4.5 million euros.
The Vienna Commercial Court opened insolvency proceedings on Monday against KRAFTMoments Development GmbH, according to the Association of Credit Protection of 1870. The case affects 80 creditors and 30 employees.
The company cited falling sales due to lower purchasing power among customers, as well as rising rents and other costs. It does not plan to continue operating or restructure the business because of the high costs, the association said.
The reporting and creditors’ examination hearing is scheduled for November 23. Claims can be filed until November 9.
The food market hall on Eichenstraße opened in 2023, a year later than planned. The 1907 depot was renovated for the project, and trees were planted in former maintenance pits beneath the tracks.
