Tirol energy agency reports 23,000 consultations since launch

Energy Agency Tirol has carried out around 23,000 consultations since it was founded three years ago, ORF reported. The agency advises residents on energy issues including building renovations, heating conversions, photovoltaic systems and electric mobility.

The agency was created in 2023 when the Tyrol government coalition of the Austrian People’s Party and Social Democratic Party merged the organisations Energy Tirol and Water Tirol. It said the consultations took place over the past three and a half years.

Questions also covered subsidies, installing photovoltaic systems and setting up charging stations for electric cars. The agency employs 56 people at its Innsbruck headquarters and a further 15 energy advisers at service centres from Landeck and Pflach to Hochfilzen and Lienz.

Work in schools and municipalities

Energy Agency Tirol describes itself as an independent advisory body for the province on energy, water and resources. It also runs information and awareness programmes in addition to individual consultations.

More than 7,500 students took part in nearly 450 workshops on renewable energy and saving energy during the 2025-26 school year, the agency said. Its Energiewichtel initiative has reached younger children. Over the past 10 years, including the period before the agency was founded, it has raised awareness of responsible energy use among 3,500 children in more than 100 kindergartens in Tyrol.

The agency also works directly with municipalities, which it described as playing a key role in Tyrol’s energy transition. Between 2023 and 2025, it carried out 634 consultations on photovoltaic systems and energy communities, 90 subsidy consultations and 58 mobility checks. Twelve municipalities joined the e5 programme for energy-efficient municipalities, while more than 3,000 people attended 67 municipal events.

Data for energy decisions

In addition to its advisory services, the agency provides decision-making data for politicians, municipalities and businesses. It has documented and analysed the development of energy demand and production in Tyrol since 2009.

It also prepares studies on energy storage, carbon dioxide capture and the use of renewable energy potential. At the agency’s initiative, a study examined the potential of Lake Achensee for generating thermal energy.
