Tirol kliniken win VCÖ Mobility Award

Tirol kliniken won the Mobility Award from the Austrian Transport Club, known as VCÖ, on Wednesday, ORF reported. The new Fritzens-Wattens railway station and Innsbruck’s Bozner Platz also received awards.

The VCÖ, the state of Tyrol and Austrian Federal Railways recognise projects that implement creative solutions for the transition to sustainable mobility. This year’s awards attracted 34 entries, with the top projects presented at the Landhaus.

Tirol kliniken received the award for its mobility concept. Alongside a job ticket, employees receive a special rate for the city bike scheme or financial support to buy a new bicycle. Company vehicles may also be used privately.

Tirol kliniken employs more than 9,000 people at four locations across Tyrol. The scheme has been well received at all locations, said Stefan Deflorian, the organisation’s commercial managing director.

Vienna-based architecture firm Ostertag Architects was recognised for designing the new Fritzens-Wattens railway station. The jury praised its links between buses, trains, cars and bicycles, as well as its short-distance layout.

Innsbruck received another award for redesigning Bozner Platz. The project created more space for pedestrians and cyclists, reduced traffic and added greenery to provide natural cooling. The jury said the square had become a pleasant place to spend time and had been well received by residents.
