Bruckmühl rehab clinic faces possible licence revocation

Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR) reports that the geriatric rehabilitation clinic in Bruckmühl could lose its operating licence. The Rosenheim district office has opened proceedings to revoke the licence after an unannounced inspection conducted with the Medical Service of Bavaria.

The inspection took place on August 27 following BR reports about alleged problems at the clinic. Officials found significant deficiencies in the documentation of medical care, the district office said.

The clinic was unable to provide a complete record showing whether nursing and medical care had been delivered adequately. In some cases, it was also unclear who had issued prescriptions and who had carried them out. The administration and effects of some as-needed medication were not documented, officials said.

Inspectors also found individual deficiencies in basic hygiene, wound care and the positioning of patients.

The clinic remains open. The Rosenheim public health office said an immediate closure was not justified because the inspection had found no immediate threat to patients’ welfare.

The clinic has received a formal hearing notice and can respond within a set period. It may explain how it intends to correct the deficiencies. The outcome of the proceedings remains open.

The district office said the clinic introduced a new documentation system in 2023 and trained its employees to use it. BR investigations had uncovered reports of serious problems at the geriatric rehabilitation clinic, including complaints from patients and relatives.

The Rosenheim public health office said the reports prompted the latest inspection. It added that the clinic had also been inspected without notice regularly in the past, but that the cases described in BR’s reporting had not previously been known.
