Man arrested after allegedly aiming blank pistol during Vienna dispute
A 47-year-old man was provisionally arrested after allegedly pointing a blank-firing pistol at a 45-year-old resident during a dispute in Vienna’s Landstrasse district on Saturday, ORF reported.
Police said the argument began when the man, crossing a pedestrian crossing on Landstrasser Hauptstrasse, objected to a taxi driver’s driving. The two exchanged insults, angering a nearby resident. Witnesses called police after all three men began arguing, from the car, the street and a balcony.
The passerby allegedly felt provoked by the resident and pointed what appeared to be a real firearm at him. Police stopped the 47-year-old shortly afterwards and found a blank-firing pistol with matching ammunition, as well as a small quantity of drugs suspected to be cocaine.
The man was already subject to an official weapons ban. He was provisionally arrested and reported to authorities on suspicion of making a dangerous threat and offences under weapons and narcotics laws.
