Most of the 90 childminders affected by the closure of Salzburg’s Childminder Centre in May have continued working for other providers, ORF reports.

The centre became insolvent and had to dismiss its childcare workers, leaving many families uncertain about arrangements for their children. Most of its childcare locations were taken over by new provider associations.

More than 50 childminders found jobs with “Bei uns dahoam”, a newly established provider association in Pongau. Its managing director, Daniela Kandler, said the association was founded to take on the childminders and ensure a seamless transition for them and families. She said the transition went well and there were no significant gaps in childcare.

About 20 others moved to Hilfswerk, bringing its workforce in the field to around 50. Only 10 childminders changed professions or retired after the centre’s insolvency.
