Alliance Care, Switzerland’s nursing umbrella association, has dissolved and begun bankruptcy proceedings after running into financial difficulties, SRF reported. The nursing council and delegates’ assembly made the decision on Wednesday.

Founded in June 2025, the association said its financial performance fell short of expectations. Efforts to stabilise its finances failed, while membership numbers did not grow enough to secure long-term funding. The Swiss Association of Nursing Professionals (SBK) had provided loans to give Alliance Care time to establish itself.

In June, Alliance Care laid off 17 of its 91 employees. President Sophie Ley said the association regretted that the project had not worked out as hoped despite considerable effort.

The SBK and other member organisations are now reviewing how services transferred to Alliance Care will continue. The constituent organisations say they will keep working together to represent nursing professionals across Switzerland.

Alliance Care was formed to bring together everyone working in nursing, including people without a diploma from a higher vocational school or university.
