Police stopped four trucks with serious safety defects and a driver suspected of cocaine use during traffic checks on the A10 Tauern motorway in Salzburg on Thursday evening, ORF reported. Officers filed 35 reports in total.
At the Kuchl heavy-vehicle checkpoint in Tennengau, police took the trucks out of service and removed their number plates. Defects included a broken frame, a major oil leak, a cracked windscreen, significant overloading and insufficient tyre tread.
Separately, a traffic patrol noticed the unusual driving of a 26-year-old Italian man on the motorway at Grödig-Glanegg in Flachgau. His breath test was negative for alcohol, but a rapid test was positive for cocaine. An official doctor confirmed he was unfit to drive. Police took his licence and barred him from continuing his journey.
