Brenner truck traffic could top 2.5 million this year
Truck transit on the Brenner motorway is heading for a record, with more than 1.88 million articulated lorries and trucks with trailers passing through by the end of September, ORF reported. That was an increase of more than four per cent in the first nine months of the year.
The tally at the Schönberg toll station on the A13 was up by more than 75,000 heavy vehicles after three quarters. If the rise continues at a similar pace through year-end, the number of heavy transit trucks crossing the Brenner could exceed 2.5 million for the first time, surpassing the previous record set in 2022.
Traffic in the category that includes light trucks, buses and heavy camper vans rose by almost 10 per cent from January to the end of September. These vehicles make up only a small share of total traffic over the Brenner.
Car traffic has also risen again after falling in 2025. In the first nine months of this year, 8.89 million cars passed the toll station, an increase of about 195,000, or 2.2 per cent. Overall traffic on the A13 was therefore higher than in the same period last year.
