A fire in the heating cellar of an apartment building in Eben am Achensee prompted a response by the volunteer fire brigade early Thursday, ORF reported. No one was injured.
The Eben am Achensee Volunteer Fire Brigade was alerted at 4.15 a.m. and sent 25 firefighters and four vehicles. Because of heavy smoke, a team wearing heavy breathing apparatus entered the completely smoke-filled cellar to fight the fire.
The fire was quickly located and extinguished. The cellar was heavily damaged by the flames and smoke.
Extensive ventilation and smoke-removal work was needed before the building could be occupied again. Police and emergency medical services also attended. The rescue service sent three personnel.
The firefighting operation was completed after about 90 minutes. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
