Bavarian justice minister Eisenreich plans to leave politics

Bavarian Justice Minister Georg Eisenreich plans to withdraw from politics, broadcaster BR reported. The Munich CSU district chairman is due to issue a personal statement at 11 a.m.
According to the statement obtained by BR, Eisenreich plans to leave his post as justice minister at the end of September. He intends to retain his seat in the Bavarian state parliament until the end of the current legislative term in 2028 and remain chairman of the Munich CSU district organisation until summer 2027.
“I never wanted to spend my entire professional life in politics,” Eisenreich wrote. “That is why I have decided to stop at a point when I am still young enough for new professional challenges.”
Eisenreich, 55, has been a member of the state parliament since 2003. He has served as justice minister since late 2018 and previously spent several months as minister for Europe and digital affairs.
