Police say Klosterneuburg fire likely caused by ignition source

The fire that broke out in an apartment building in central Klosterneuburg at the end of August was highly likely caused by an ignition source, police said, according to ORF. Investigators are searching for a suspected female perpetrator.

The fire started on the roof shortly before midnight on August 26. Because the building is in the town centre, authorities issued the second-highest alarm level.

No one was in the affected building at the time, according to the fire service. However, several apartments in neighbouring buildings had to be evacuated because of heavy smoke.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze after about two hours. No one was injured, the fire service said.

Police investigated the cause on September 2 and said the results were now available. They said a negligent or deliberate introduction of an ignition source could be assumed with a high degree of probability.

The search for a suspect is continuing. Police declined to provide further details, saying the investigation was ongoing.
