Five young people were injured after a 21-year-old driver lost control of a car in Thal in the Graz-Umgebung district on Sunday night, ORF reported. The vehicle came to rest on its side in a stream bed.

The crash happened at about 10.40 p.m. on the L331 road as the car travelled from Eggenberg towards Gösting. The vehicle first went onto an embankment before plunging into the stream bed.

All five occupants, including the 21-year-old driver, three 20-year-olds and an 18-year-old, escaped through the rear hatch. They received medical treatment and were taken to the UKH Graz and LKH Graz hospitals. The driver was not under the influence of alcohol.

Driver trapped after car overturns

In a separate incident on Sunday afternoon, a 45-year-old driver left the road in Puchegg, a locality in Vorau in the Hartberg-Fürstenfeld district. The car overturned and came to a stop on an adjoining property.

The driver was injured and, according to Grafendorf volunteer fire brigade, trapped beneath the vehicle. An emergency doctor treated him before he was flown by rescue helicopter to LKH Graz. Firefighters from Vorau and Grafendorf responded.
