Alcoholised driver fled after leaving injured woman at crash

A 50-year-old woman suffered serious head injuries in a two-car collision in Gratkorn, in the Graz-Umgebung district, on Friday afternoon, ORF reported. The 32-year-old driver of the other car fled on foot after the crash, leaving her behind.
The collision occurred on Harter Straße at about 5.15pm. The man, who is from the Graz-Umgebung district, was stopped nearby and appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. He refused to take a breathalyser test.
Red Cross crews provided first aid to the woman before taking her to hospital. About 25 members of the Gratkorn-Markt and Friesach volunteer fire brigades attended with seven vehicles. Both cars were damaged.
The circumstances of the crash remain under investigation. The 32-year-old will face multiple reports to the authorities.
Two further crashes
About an hour later, a 19-year-old driver was injured in a collision in Traboch, in the Leoben district. He was attempting to cross the B113 and apparently failed to see a car driven by a 50-year-old man. The younger driver suffered injuries of unspecified severity and was taken to Leoben State Hospital. The other driver was not injured.
Volunteer firefighters from Madstein-Stadlhof and Traboch also attended that crash.
In another incident on Friday evening, a car left the road on Ottersbacherstraße in the municipality of Jagerberg in southeastern Styria. The person involved had left the vehicle before emergency crews arrived and was conscious. Firefighters from Jagerberg and Grasdorf recovered the car from a ditch using a winch, with help from members of the crews. Ambulance staff treated the injured person.
