St Pölten court acquits man over alleged illegal ammunition possession

A 46-year-old man has been acquitted of all charges after a Cobra police operation in Petzenkirchen in the Melk district over alleged war weapons, ORF reported. The charges concerned the alleged illegal possession of 18 rifle cartridges, a shotgun cartridge and a tracer projectile.

Police launched the operation in March after receiving information that weapons and war material were allegedly stored in a building, despite the man being subject to a weapons ban. Officers searched the building and imposed a wide cordon around it for safety reasons.

The man was stopped and reported while remaining at liberty. The St Pölten regional court acquitted him on Wednesday on all counts. The verdict is not yet legally binding.
