Two people were injured when a car collided with a police vehicle in Edt bei Lambach in the Wels-Land district on Monday, ORF reported. Police said a 45-year-old driver turned left on the B144 and collided with the patrol car, which was overtaking vehicles while responding to an operation.

The crash happened late Monday afternoon at the intersection of the B144 Gmundener Straße, Linzer Straße and Heidestraße. The woman was driving from Wels towards Lambach and was turning left into Heidestraße near a petrol station.

The police car approached from behind with its blue lights and siren activated. The 26-year-old driver was at the wheel and a 25-year-old police officer was in the passenger seat. The patrol car was overtaking several vehicles.

Police said the woman did not see the overtaking patrol car and continued turning. The two vehicles then collided, coming to a stop at the roadside and in an adjacent field.

The driver and the police officer suffered injuries of unspecified severity. Both were taken to Wels Hospital after receiving initial treatment.

Both vehicles were severely damaged. Firefighters cleared the scene, absorbed leaked fluids and moved the damaged vehicles out of the intersection for removal.

The intersection was difficult to pass for about half an hour during the operation. Several emergency personnel attended the scene. The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation.
