Pedestrian dies in hospital after hit-and-run in Styria

An 82-year-old pedestrian died in hospital on Sunday after being hit by a heavily intoxicated driver in Fernitz-Mellach in the Graz-Umgebung district of Styria. The 42-year-old woman fled the scene, ORF reported.

The accident happened on Saturday afternoon while the man was cleaning a road that had been soiled by work on a nearby field. Police said the driver may have failed to see him as she passed. She left the man seriously injured at the scene.

Witness statements led police to the driver. A breathalyser test showed that she was heavily intoxicated.
