Elsbethen, hiking, Salzburg

Repair work began Monday at the Glasenbachklamm gorge in Elsbethen, Salzburg state, after years of negotiations and an official closure, ORF reports. The municipality is replacing bridges along the hiking trail.

As a first step, three particularly dilapidated bridges will be completely dismantled and replaced. Further bridges are then scheduled to undergo repairs and safety work.

The measures are necessary because several structures are severely deteriorated or already unsafe. The municipality said the temporary full closure was required to ensure the work could be carried out safely.

The gorge is expected to remain closed until mid-November. Visitors are urged to observe the closure, as construction work, heavy equipment and bridge dismantling currently make the route too dangerous. The municipality will announce the exact reopening date in advance.
