Teenager dies after being run over by train at Bern station

SRF reported that a teenager was run over by a train at Europaplatz station in Bern late Saturday evening and died at the scene. Bern cantonal police said on Sunday that they currently believe the incident was an accident.

For reasons that remain unclear, the teenager entered the track area between the platform and a departing train.

Police said they have concrete indications of the victim’s identity, but formal identification has not yet been completed. Investigators are examining the circumstances and sequence of events.

The railway line was closed for about two and a half hours. Bern professional firefighters, BLS staff, transport police, an emergency doctor, two ambulance teams, the University of Bern’s Institute of Forensic Medicine and the Bern cantonal care team were among those involved in the response.
