Police seek driver after moped crash seriously injures teenager

Police are searching for an unidentified driver after a 16-year-old moped rider was seriously injured in eastern Styria, ORF reported. The teenager crashed while swerving to avoid an oncoming car.
The accident happened shortly before 4 p.m. on Pirchaweg, as the teenager was travelling towards Pircha in the Weiz district. The vehicles did not make contact, but the moped rider moved onto the road shoulder, struck a culvert and fell.
He was taken by rescue helicopter to Graz University Hospital, where doctors diagnosed a serious spinal injury.
The car driver has not yet been identified. The vehicle is believed to have been a blue Volkswagen Polo. Police are asking the driver to contact Gleisdorf Police Station on 059133/6264. Witnesses are also being sought.
14-year-old injured in e-scooter collision
In a separate incident in Weiz on Saturday evening, a 14-year-old e-scooter rider collided with a car and was also taken to Graz University Hospital. The extent of the teenager’s injuries was not immediately known.
Police said the teenager was believed to have been travelling too fast before colliding with a car driven by a 69-year-old man at an intersection.
