Two Styria crashes leave five people injured

Two traffic crashes in Styria left five people injured, four of them seriously, ORF reported. The incidents occurred in Wöll and Kirchbach in Styria on Friday.

At about 2.40pm, a 50-year-old man from Vienna was driving on the B317 Friesacher Straße from Scheifling towards Judenburg when he crossed into the opposite lane in Wöll for an unknown reason.

His car collided with an oncoming vehicle driven by a 37-year-old woman from Murau district. The impact threw the Vienna man’s car back onto the right-hand lane, where it collided with a motorcycle ridden by a 23-year-old man from Bruck-Mürzzuschlag district.

The motorcyclist fell and suffered serious injuries. The 50-year-old driver and his 63-year-old passenger were also seriously injured. An 11-year-old passenger in the other car sustained minor injuries. Ambulance crews and an emergency helicopter took all four injured people to hospitals.

Firefighters from St Georgen and St Peter ob Judenburg attended with four vehicles and 18 personnel. They secured the crash scene, provided fire protection and carried out a technical rescue. One person trapped in a vehicle was freed using hydraulic rescue equipment and handed over to the Red Cross. Firefighters also contained leaking fluids.

In a separate crash in Kirchbach in Styria, in the Southeast Styria district, police said a 36-year-old lorry driver failed to see a 22-year-old motorcyclist while turning into a petrol station on Friday. The two vehicles collided, and the motorcyclist was seriously injured and taken to Feldbach State Hospital.
